Monthly Write-Ups

At the end of each month, the teachers are asked to do what they call "Monthly Write-Ups". Our board members and administrators like to get a brief summary of what each of the classes have been up to.

Even though none of this will be new to you (IF you are reading all of The Sweet News that I send to you every Monday), I will be posting them at the end of the month.

Here is the entry from September:

In class 2B, we have been working very hard on writing a paragraph. The students are forming topic sentences, 2 main ideas, 3 examples to support their main ideas, and a good concluding statement to tie everything together. Math has been exciting as they are learning to identify odd/even numbers, write numbers in expanded form, as well as rounding to the nearest ten. We are truly enjoying our new science curriculum with a variety of lab work. Reading time is full of interesting discussion as we learn strategies to improve our comprehension skills. Bible has been rewarding as the children have acted out what it must have been like to be an Israelite family back in the time of Moses. Second grade is awesome!

Here is the write-up from October:

Mrs. Johnston’s 2nd grade class has been into WRITING! Our favorite assignment of the month was to write, “How to Make a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich”, and then to test out our directions writing skills by having our partner actually make the sandwich! It was a very yummy day. We are loving our new science books with beautiful photos on the life cycle of the frog, mouse, and grasshopper. In Bible we have just crossed the Jordan river and entered into Canaan. In Social Studies, we have been performing mini-skits on what life must have been like for the colonists in Jamestown and Plymouth. Reading has been a blast as many of us are reading chapter books, and showing amazing comprehension by using various strategies. 2nd grade is too much fun!!
